China's ocean-going ships have decreased, but the number of containers has continued to increase
In recent years, China's ocean-going ships have decreased, but the number of containers has continued to increase
Is the soaring price of container shipping caused by the decrease in supply? Next, the forward-looking will be analyzed from the supply side and the demand side.
Based on the analysis of the supply side of my country's ocean-going vessels in recent years, from 2016 to 2020, China's ocean-going vessels will show a downward trend. In 2020, the number of China's ocean shipping vessels was 1,499, a decrease of 9.9% compared to 2019. Compared with 2016, the number of ocean-going shipping vessels in 2020 will be reduced by about 900, a decrease of 39.8%.
Although the overall number of ocean-going ships has decreased in recent years, since 2018, the number of containers for ocean-going ships in my country has continued to rise. In 2020, China's ocean shipping container containers reached 1.808 million TEU, a year-on-year increase of 48.9%. Therefore, the decrease of ocean-going vessels is not the main reason for the surge in container shipping prices in 2020-2021.
